The Cog
The first thing we thought of was the Honda "cog" advert which was made by an ad agency called Wieden & Kennedy. They ripped off the idea and there was a big hooo ha about it in the design world.
"Shortly after Cog appeared on television, Wieden + Kennedy received a letter from Peter Fischli and David Weiss, creators of the 1987 art film Der Lauf der Dinge, in which the duo pointed out a number of similarities between their work andCog. When interviewed by Creative Review magazine, the pair made clear that they wished they had been consulted on the advertisement, and that they would not have given permission if asked....... Despite these speculations, Fischli and Weiss never filed a lawsuit against either Wieden + Kennedy or Honda UK, knowing that there was little hope of success under UK copyright law."
"Swiss artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss have collaborated on kinetic installations since 1979. All of their work to date, whether in photography, film, drawing, or sculpture, has demonstrated a deep interest in the mechanisms that animate the universe of objects."
